Nordic Walking is a fitness walking with specially designed sticks. Coming from Scandinavia, where the concept was developed on the basis of off-season ski-training. It combines pleasure, conviviality and health. Nordic walking is gentle on the joints and yet energetic. The continuous swinging gait with the sticks makes similar demands on the heart and circulation than jogging, and yet the supporting structure of the body (bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles) are less stressed. Nordic Walking is a gentle endurance sport that requires no special skills and can be practiced by everyone, regardless of his physical condition. It is an excellent « sport-health » tone all the muscles of the body (80% of chains strained muscle), activation generates a cardiovascular comparable to a jog, and increases oxygenation by 60% compared to the classical walk. Thanks to the vibration caused by the sticks, it strengthens bones and helps prevent osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. It also promotes weight loss by increasing the body’s calorie consumption up to 40% compared with the traditional march. It brings quick results in terms of fitness and helps with back pain.
This new activity will be launched for the first time in Blonville, Bénerville and Tourgéville in April 2013 under the auspices of the Office of Tourism. Each session will last nearly 2 hours including warming, walking and stretching and will be overseen by a Nordic Walking Coach . Registation (limited number) will be 2€, so that the sticks provided by the Office of Tourism to each registered participant.
